Great news from the board
We are proud to introduce our new board members!
In 2023, Lisanne Henuy-Rooijakkers (board member since 2010) and Maria Vermeer (board member from the start in 2007) indicated that they would step down as board members of Amara Foundation as of 2024. Their involvement remains and they are still volunteers within the foundation and we are very happy with that!
Recruiting new board members also includes reviewing and reviewing the tasks. In the meantime, the first meetings (online and partly live) have already taken place, the official forms of governance and tasks have been redistributed and everything has been completely transferred from the old board members.
As already mentioned, we are proud to present:
Esther van Rooij as Treasurer and Nynke Haagsma as PR employee.
New Treasurer: Esther van Rooij
My name is Esther van Rooij, living in Langenboom and mother of 2 children.
I work as an assistant accountant at an administration office, so I like to work with numbers. Carmen and I have known each other for many years, so I was already aware of the Amara Foundation and all the good work they do for the people in Kenya. With your own foundation, you can offer targeted help where it is really needed. That is why I would like to support Carmen, Evelien and Nynke by processing the financial administration, so that they can dedicate themselves to the projects in Kisumu.
New PR employee: Nynke Haagsma
Mambo? Since January 1, I can officially join the board of Amara and I am really looking forward to that! My name is Nynke, I live in beautiful Friesland and in addition to the ‘core business’ of raising two sons and meeting the requirements of my two cats, my work as a teacher and assessment expert at a university of applied sciences keeps me busy.
In the December 2022 newsletter, I already wrote that I met Carmen in Kisumu, in 2006. I’ve always kept in touch with Carmen and some friends in Kisumu and I’ve been going back a few times lately. For Amara I have always brought nice things for the web shop, donated items (thanks again on behalf of the recipients!) and by visiting the projects I also met the people we do it all for: the many children who have a chance thanks to Amara’s donors.
I am looking forward to helping Carmen, Evelien and Esther with the projects in Kisumu, but also with the hard work they do here in the Netherlands to make sure everything runs smoothly.
